Penguin In Panic!!! released

cameleon-labs is happy to announce the release of the Penguin In Panic!!! game.

The free Android title is a single tap, top-down endless runnner game.

Your goal is to guide one not-so-bright Penguin, through an ice labyrinth and don’t loose him out of sight. Tap the Penguin to change direction and stay in the game as this endless runner experience gets faster and faster. The funny little creature will do his best, but being a penguin he’s not going to impress you with his speed, so avoid the long runs and keep going down fast.

- Pretty low-poly 3D style visuals with infinite random level generation
- Easy to understand gameplay
- Vibration feedback
- Google Play leaderboards and achievements support
- No in-app purchases

The game is powered by Unreal Engine 4 and was developed entirely with the engine’s Blueprint coding system, serving as a proving ground for the UE4 mobile development techniques as well as Blueprints capabilities.

You can get Penguin In Panic for free at the Google Play store:

Who needs documentation…

… if you can do reverse engineering on example projects?

They say that an image is worth a thousand words? Yeah, right… But sometimes, just sometimes that 1000 words would be a much better idea ;) I do love UE4 Blueprints, and love working with them, but sometimes it’s just such a mess… You may have problems finding stuff in your own setups if you come back to it after a longer break, but if you are trying to figure out something you don’t know yet how it works, you don’t know yet how it is supposed to work, and you don’t know the way it is visually organized… than you are about to have some serious fun :D

And then you are finished and it all seems so perfectly simple.

And then you come back to it after two weeks, and you can’t understand a thing for the first ten minutes :)

Walk-run cycle blend space

A quick test of the walk/run cycle blend space for the penguin.

Basically the walk cycle is not exactly very “penguin-style”, as the speed of the game makes a penguin like walking style rather impossible to use. This panicked penguin is simply to fast for that… :)

Penguin In Panic!!!

The Penguin In Panic!!! game is almost here. A very simple concept with very simple… pretty much everything :)

Created with Unreal Engine 4, using the internal Bleuprints scripting proved the concept of building games without C++.

That’s what you find on YouTube when you search for penguin walk cycle references:

professional services

We are happy to announce that we have decided to explore the possibilites of Unreal Engine 4 in the strictly commerical areas like real time architectural visualization, prototyping and simulations. The professional services division of cameleon-labs will be responsible for propagating hi-end realtime 3D simulations for professional in different areas.

Please head to to find out more.

After a few months of learnign UE4 (and making a living in other areas) we are getting ready to launch some stuff. We have decided to get familiar with the new engine by preparing a few smaller releases, and by exploring some other areas for UE4 applications.

So you may expect a mobile title announcement very soon, then another, and another… And what it does mean for Rascal Rider? Basically two things: one is a lot more mature approach with some more bells and whistles, and second is an unknown release date.

Unreal Engine 4

Yes, just like many others, we have decided to go ‘unreal’.

We have been testing the Unreal Engine 4 service for some time now, and we have made the decision to declare ourselfs UE4 fans :)

This of course means some plans will need to change…

Indiegogo has ended.

So the experiment is over… we could say that we are back to work now, but… we didn’t stop working in the first place.

With campaign over we are simply working like we used to. Or even harder… The campaign didn’t really make it through to the media, so the result comes as no surprise to us. And that’s why we are focusing on some new opportunities that lay ahead of us.

Stay tuned :)

It looks like someone was getting a menu prototype for Christmas :)
